Star anise is a spice made from the fruit of the Chinese evergreen tree.
It is aptly named for the star shape of the pods from which the spice seeds are harvested and has a flavour with tones of licorice.
Use in curries and cooking for the distinct flavour.
Store in a cool dry place.
